its not two guitars its just dave. for this song boyd fingerpicks the violin which is the riff heard throughout the song.

I feel you on that..I don’t really listen to much of the “modern” bands..they’re a bunch of whiners and complainers that don’t really know anything about music
i see 1 base guitar and the lead guitar if a group have 3 three people how many instrument can they play at once five ? unless it,s a song they incorporate extra instrument
If I know or dont know anything about music is besides the point. I merely posted a question for others to answer for me. I am not making fun, I am just curious.
Dave Mathews band is probably unique in that respect. Rarely you will find any other instrument besides a guitar and drum.
@eajinabi ok buddy, there is only one guitarist in this song, one bassist, one saxophone, one fiddle, and a drummer.. learn your instruments before you say they have 3 guitars so now you can say you’ve seen an American band that doesn’t have 3 plus guitars

For the guitarist thing, think of a choir. You have Tener, Baritone, Bass for the males. they are all usually male, but the have different tones and/or place for a song.
It’s all in there for a reason, just like any other instrument.
Everyone has tones that sound good or bad to your ears. So as you say “western” music, may not be the type of music for you. Its not good or bad its just how things end up.
As a listener, I do not find any difference or notice any significant contribution to the song in general.
Each guitar serves a different purpose such as Lead Guitar, Rhythm Guitar, Bass etc
Why do all American bands have 3 plus guitarist and a drummer? What is the purpose of having 3,4,5 guitarist? Why are the songs devoid of simple aspects of music like rhythm or melody? Is it me or do the singers have no vocal training whatsoever? I am not poking fun at this band in particular (its most or all bands that I hear in western music). Please educate me in these details.
In 0:14 – 0:16 that was my class in 1st grade 5 years ago and at 1:36 – 1:37 is me in frist grade

America has to realize that no matter under what prejudice comes against us we will live under any circumstance under any threat and this song brings the beautiful of america n to cherish america brings us to terms with the fact that we will prosper if we stick together…
